Syma S107/S107G

The Syma S107G is a beast of a helicopter that has a coaxial blade and an all-metal durable frame that is immensely easy to control and can take a pounding without going kaput. It is 19 cms long which is a much better size than extremely small RC toys which are flimsier in nature. Also, it weighs just 34 grams which is perfect for children to carry around during playtime.

Despite it having excellent maneuverability and aerodynamics, there’s bound to be a small learning curve. The Syma S107G is designed ruggedly with double circuit protection to ensure that it survives any mishaps and crashes during this phase.

It is available in a wide range of attractive colors, the beauty of which is further compounded due to the metallic frame. The package includes an infrared 3-channel remote control and a proprietary USB cable that lets you connect it to your laptop and charge it on the go.

Tip: When you connect the USB cable to the PC, it will activate a red LED light on the connector. The moment, you connect it to the helicopter, the light switches off. This indicates that it is charging correctly. After 10-15 minutes, the light will come back on, indicating that the Syma S107G is fully charged.

It takes approximately 20-25 minutes for a full charge and gives you 7-8 minutes of uninterrupted flight time.

Unlike advanced RC toys that demand some tinkering with the settings, the Syma S107G comes ready to fly out of the box.

The controls are pretty self-explanatory on the transmitter. Once fully charged, you need to bind the transmitter to the S107G until the light on the helicopter stops blinking. You have the two controls to take it to the air and forward and backward. It only has 3.5 channels which limits the ability of the S107G to fly laterally.

But the co-axial rotors (twin rotors that are stacked one above the other and rotate in opposite directions) clubbed with the crossbar gyroscope adds tremendous stability to the child’s remote control helicopter. It requires very minimal trimming especially during the throttle. And if it starts to spiral and get out of control, you can trim it from the transmitter, preventing a full-blown crash.

It does have a few minor problems especially with the infrared transmitter which needs to be in line-of-sight for the Syma S107G to take to the air. Also, there’s bound to be interference from other IR based devices while zipping around the house.

Please remember that the Syma S107G is meant purely for indoor flying. If you attempt to take it to the skies in the backyard, a small draft of wind can veer it off course and send it into the neighbor’s yard.
